For those of you not partaking in the fun and games over on Facebook, I'm pleased to announce that after countless submission fees and endless rejections, Falling was just selected by Upper 11 / Universal for TV/film/radio licensing. I don't know what that means but it sure sounds coo:

Falling by Matthew Meadows

^^^ (I'm linking to ReverbNation here only because there's no way to link to a single song here on Melodic Revolution yet)

The terrible irony here is that I had stopped submitting it entirely after a particularly harsh rejection. I remixed it, tried changing it dramatically (...oh, the horror...), and ultimately reverted to my very first vocal take, plain and dry, before putting it away for safe keeping. But the other day it was Valentine's Day and I was feeling the love so I ponied up the $5 and waited to be abused for the privilege like usual.

Well, I finally got lucky. I don't know the terms, I don't know how much they'll use, and I've been wondering if they might want to find a more capable singer. But it's sweet any way you slice it, and it's particularly gratifying to me that it was Kim's song.  She deserves that much and more.

Anyway, no reason to slow down. In fact, give me an inch and I'll take a mile because we're playing for keeps around here.  So last night I turned around and reviewed all of the TV/Radio/Film submissions that I had passed on Falling for over at both MusicXRay and SonicSubmit, and went ahead and applied. This morning I woke up to two very polite rejections that both indicated they couldn't use it presently but they liked the song enough to file it away in their libraries for future use. I got another rejection not as politely suggesting I was wasting his time and referring me to sites where I can learn about how to make proper music for his submissions before wasting any more of it.  Time is money so I guess we're even.

Unfortunatley, in the always-subjective world of A&R representation (can you call it that? they just store files for some dude to listen to when the money drops into the cage), one man's gem is another man's steaming turd.  They say birds of a feather and such, so I'm planning on hanging with the gem guys whenever I can from now on.  The turd guys are no fun.

Lather, rinse, repeat.
