Maggie Seligman commented on Melodic Revolution Records's group Static X
"This category of non-categories suits me fine.  I am an eclectic acoustic musician, and I perform all sorts of music.  I hate having to categorize myself as one thing or another.  Thoughts on the necessity of definition and…"

Maggie Seligman commented on Melodic Revolution Records's group I Sing The Songs
"I perform a lot of what I call composed folk vs. traditional folk music  as well as my own music.  Some singer/songwriters/folk artists avoid covering songs by others (i.e., the great folk composers, such as Dylan, Phil…"

Maggie Seligman commented on Melodic Revolution Records's group Reshaping Music
"It's interesting to read these comments--most are talking from their own experience, which is fine, but to generalize from that particular?  A point of view: music is an art form.  The idea that people can sell their art and become…"

Profile Information

Bio
My goal is to get the music out there—as much as I can, wherever I can. My sound and style are my own. If you are used to a processed vanilla sound, or songs which are all in the same key and follow the same chord pattern, you will find my music to be edgier and less predictable. My sound and interpretation reflect a strong mix of emotions, styles and traditions, which is why I describe myself as "eclectic acoustic."

Grew up in New York City and listened to and have been influenced by music and vocal styles of all types, ranging from folk/traditional/roots to standards and jazz. In performance, I deliver powerful and passionate interpretations of my originals as well as fresh takes on American and British traditional songs, folk, and standards.

Play regularly at the Towne Crier Café in Pawling, NY, where I have opened for Catie Curtis, Christine Lavin, and Dave Cousins, as well as being featured in Showcases and participating in the Open Mic Finals. Opened for Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Dan Schatz at Borderline Folk Music Club, New City, NY. Played Clinton (NY) Art and Music Festival; appear regularly at Taste Budd's (Red Hook, NY), Jitters Coffeehouse (Southington, CT); Woody Guthrie Celebrations (Somers, NY), and other venues in NY and PA. Produced and performed in “Music for Four Voices” at Arts on the Lake in Lake Carmel, NY, and also appeared there in “An American Music Concert” and their “Open Mouth” events. Developed the concept for, wrote, and appeared with Steve Kirkman and Sylvia Brooks in “The Music of The Grapes of Wrath: Readings and Songs,” also at Arts on the Lake.

My song "Of Our Time" was chosen by Melodic Revolution Records for their CD project, "Musicians for Oil Relief." Getting airplay on www.womenofsubstanceradio.com and www.womensradio.com. A recent project is singing jazz with guitarist Martin Aronchick and performing as Standard Time.

"Rubato" was released in 2009. A new album project is in the works.
