Melodic Revolution Records

About Us

Our goal is simple:

Bring together musicians, artists, and every day people to keep the inspiration and imagination of the arts alive. The telling of a story through a song or art has an impact and long lasting effects in our daily lives. We try to promote these effects in hopes that people will continue to use music to learn, entertain, inspire, and open new doors in their lives.

Melodic Revolution Records is an independent grassroots music label formed in 2006 by Nick and Jennifer Katona. Prior to the label Melodic Revolution was originally a free standing brick and mortar retail music shop selling CDs vinyl and assorted music memorabilia located at 34 College Street. Clinton, New York. Melodic Revolution was established in 2004 by Nick Katona. Nick has been in the music business in one form or another for over 30 years, and continues his tradition of exploring new avenues to bring new music to the willing music listener.

October 2005 saw the addition of Art Gallery simply called Revolution Gallery to showcase the art of some great untapped talent in the area. Many of the artist’s works were by seasoned artists while others were by up and coming artists. Two months later in January of 2006 an acquaintance Kevin Thompson: a local Christian musician and customer suggested that the gallery would be a good location for a live venue at night while remaining as an art gallery by day. According to Kevin and others the gallery had very good acoustics two week latter Kevin performed with some friends the band was called the Kevin Thompson Trio thus starting a new tradition at Melodic Revolution with other local performers playing the small venue, musicians like Rocky Graziano, Ryan Miller, Dave Snediker and The Jellyfish among others.

In June 2006 the realization that the small 300 square foot room that had become a favorite local spot for kids to listen to music was too small and was once again expanded (by an additional 400 square feet) to accommodate more fans and full bands. Quickly the space known as Revolution Gallery by day became known as Live at The Revolution at night. Over the next 2 years Melodic Revolution hosted over 200 shows and more than 600 bands and or solo artists performed form local to regional acts such as Scott Brown, Honor Bright, Union Riot to national recording artists like Between The Trees, A Day To Remember, As Tall As Lions, Alesana, and International acts like Ember Swift, Mindflow, Gustav And The Seasick Sailors, and Helena Arlock just to name a few.

2006 was a busy year for activities with the addition of the art gallery live venue and the launching of Melodic Revolution Records. the first band to sign on was California base Classic Rock band Echoes Landing with the release of their debut Closer to you soon followed Laurie Larson with her sophomore release Aquila. Change is good for growth and change was happening. Expanding once again to the internet to sell the ever growing independent music catalog much of which started out by bands that had performed at the Revolution and soon grew to independent releases by not only local musicians but national and international independent musicians as well.

Keeping with what had become tradition Melodic Revolution continued to promote live music and the arts by introducing the Clinton Art and Music Festival on August 23 2006. As a director on the Clinton Chamber of Commerce I felt the need to bring the Chamber on board to give this festival some credibility and help make it more of a community event. The festival continues to this day.

May 2007 saw the release of Laurie Larson’s 3rd release titled “A Striking Resemblance” September 13th 2007 was the last day of operations for the brick and mortar location yet the Revolution lives on as through the online shop and label Melodic Revolution Records which is now based out of Orlando, Florida.

January 2009 we released our first holiday release of A Very Progressive Christmas and the 2 release by Rick Andrews. Rick’s self titled solo release and Christmas Medleys Music and Mayhem.

2010 Saw the signing DDrive, Cary Clouser ,ifsounds, Phil Naro, Jim Crean, Scarlet Hollow as well as The Rescue. Then in February of 2010 tragedy struck Haiti which prompted us to do something good to help those in need so we released Songs for Haiti – Relief Through Music a 2 CD set with a bonus download only disc. Not long after that 2 more Charity Releases Oil Relief and The Christmas Gift the proceeds from all 3 charity release go directly to Habitat for Humanity via Music for Relief a not-for profit organization put together my musicians. So it was with this in mind that we formed an imprint Charity label called There Is Hope Records. We closed out the year with our second Holiday release Progressive Christmas 2

2011 has been another great year so far with many new signings and releases.  Stay tuned for more as we evolve in to one of the brightest new independent labels.

Hi Nick, just wanted to touch base with you because I know I have been chronically absent here. I've been doing a lot of promotion of Facebook, Progressive Ears, Myspace and elsewhere and I need to get MRR caught up.

First off Kinetic Element released a CD last September called Powered by Light. Can I make a KE page here in addition to my personal page?

Second, would like to know if MRR would carry it. Since its release it has 15 mostly excellent reviews, was nominated by the ProgAwards (Italian site) for Best Debut CD in 2009 (OK we didn't make the final cut) and we have gotten a feature article in Progression Magazine in the current issue (#59). Although we are still not making a big dent sales wise (we have sold about 300) we are most definitely now known in the prog world. We're under consideration for the ProgDay festival this year (not a favorite to make it I suppose but at least they are listening) and when we went to ROSfest this year with a vendor table I learned that several prominent artists have purchased our CD and given us great feedback on it.

We are looking still for a label deal. We're being distributed by Syn-Phonic(US), Kinesis(US) and Caerlyssi Music(UK) at this time.

Hope all is well, will send you a CD if you want to audition it.

What are the dates for this year's Clinton Arts Festival?

Thanks,
Mike Visaggio
